Matthew Farrelly began working at Divine Mercy Pastorate in 2024 as the part-time Evangelization & Formation Coordinator.
Matthew was born in Western Pennsylvania and baptized in the Catholic Church. Due to changing family circumstances early on, he became Protestant (Presbyterian, Baptist, Evangelical Free, and most recently Anglican for 17 years). Over time, Christ drew him back to the Catholic Church as he responded to ever-deepening longings for greater fullness of truth, beauty, and sacramental reality. Matthew is grateful for His continued faithfulness in cultivating ecumenical relationships and dialogue across diverse Christian traditions.
For his undergraduate education, Matthew studied at Grove City College, Pennsylvania, where he majored in Christian Thought. Then, he received an M.A. in Biblical Exegesis from Wheaton College, Illinois. For 10 years he developed curriculum and taught Bible, Spiritual Formation, and Church History in multi-denominational Classical Christian schools in the Chicago suburbs. As Mattthew completes his PhD studies in Education & History at UW-Madison, he periodically works as a substitute teacher at St. Ambrose Academy and Edgewood High School.
Over the years, Matthew has been afforded teaching and leadership opportunities in spiritual formation for adults and youth. Matthew's ministry experience has included lectoring, intercessory prayer, and homiletics. He has also helped lead discipleship programs, including the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises, silent retreats, and small group leadership.
Matthew's prayer is that Jesus will use his own personal journey and formation in whatever way He wills in this ministry role.
